What is Equity?

Equity Definition

Equity is a measure of the value you have built in your home over time by paying your mortgage payments. It is essentially a gauge of how much of the home you actually own, versus how much of the home the lender owns. For instance, if you have a loan-to-value ratio of 80%, then the lender owns 80% of the home, while you own 20%.
